WHO’s Essential Diagnostics List - Version 2; What’s new?

The World Health Organization (WHO) recently released its expanded List of Essential Diagnostics (EDL). How is 2019 version different from last year’s?

  • 12 new cancer tests added for detection of solid tumors including colorectal, liver, cervical, prostate, breast and germ cell cancers, and leukemia and lymphomas

  • new section covers anatomical pathology testing and tests intended for screening of blood donations

  • the list focuses on addressing additional infectious diseases such as cholera, leishmaniasis, schistosomiasis, dengue and zika
