On the 6th of December, the Federal Council adopted Health 2030. The new health policy strategy builds upon the work of Health 2020 and sets new priorities and goals for the new decade.
Explicit importance has been put on digital health, which is the first of the strategy’s 4 major challenges. To keep up with the fast-pace technological advances and digitization of health, the Federal Council has defined 2 main goals:
1. Promote the use of health-related data and technologies. In order to implement this goal, the Federal Council intends to:
Promote the digitization and use of health data, by creating a national framework for data management, supported by the Federal Council, the cantons, academia and other stakeholders.
Define the use of new technologies, by creating a framework that fosters health innovation and, at the same time, adequately addresses ethical concerns.
2. Strengthen health competence/ literacy for patients and healthcare professionals. In order to implement this goal, the Federal Council plans to:
Optimize citizen information, by transparently, coherently and consistently informing them on opportunities and risks of new medical-technological developments, digital health data and prevention.
Improve the use of health and disease information, by supporting healthcare professionals with their task of educating patients/users on digital health applications.
Health 2030 focuses on 4 major challenges: Technological and digital transformation, demographic and social changes, high quality and financially sustainable healthcare, and improvement of a healthy life.
